Leicester NHS Protest: Pay Our Health and Care Staff What They Deserve

By Save Our NHS Leicestershire
August 20, 2020

Save Our NHS Leicestershire is staging a protest in support of fair pay rises for NHS and care workers on Saturday 22nd August at 12 noon in Jubilee Square, LE1 5LB.

Tom Barker, Secretary of SONHSL, said:

“Over the last 10 years, healthcare workers have seen the real value of their salaries collapse by up to 20%.

“The entire NHS team, on the frontline and behind the scenes, has pulled together in the pandemic. The government was happy to clap NHS workers once a week, but expect them to continue to accept being chronically underpaid for the work they do.

“We need to build a movement in our communities and our unions that fights for fair wages.”

The protest will be static, and stewards will be ensuring that social distancing is maintained. Hand sanitiser and sanitising wipes will be in use. We also ask that you wear face masks – we will have a supply for those who attend without them, but please try and bring some yourself. We are also discouraging chanting, although this could be a discussion we have on the day.
